Uses in the Garden:

Adding Lemon Grass to your garden or landscaping can bring diversity in texture and height. Its slender leaves and tufted growth habit make it a captivating addition, whether planted amidst flowering plants or in stand-alone pots.

As Rhonda mentioned in our latest video, Lemon Grass emits a lovely citrusy scent, which can potentially deter mosquitoes. If you're tired of those pesky bugs during those balmy Jacksonville evenings, consider placing Lemon Grass in a decorative pot on your patio!

Beyond its ornamental appeal, lemongrass plays a starring role in various cuisines, especially Thai and Vietnamese dishes. The stalk is the most commonly used part, delivering a delicate lemon flavor.

Care and Maintenance Tips:

  • Drought Tolerance: Lemon Grass is an easy-going plant, reasonably drought-resistant once established. Though, during its first year, regular watering will help it launch its roots.
  • Pruning: Older outer stalks can be removed to encourage new growth. If it outgrows its space or you want to maintain its size, cut it back in late winter or early spring.
  • Soil Needs: It thrives in well-draining soil. If you're planting in a pot, please make sure the pot has enough drainage holes.

Culinary Uses and Recipe Tips:

Lemon Grass is for more than show. You can try making a refreshing Lemon Grass tea. You can cut off some leaves, boil them in water, and strain them for a soothing, citrus-infused beverage. If you're feeling more adventurous, use the inner part of the stalks in soups, curries, or marinades for a citrusy twist.
